One of the best-loved attractions in Newport is the Cliff Walk, a public walkway winding for 3.5 miles through the oceanfront backyards of many impressive homes including the Newport Mansions.
There are several entry points to the Cliff Walk, providing visitors with options for sightseeing and distance. Many visitors do just a portion; others do the entire thing from Easton's Beach (Memorial Boulevard) to Bailey's Beach (Ocean Drive).
Most of the walkway is paved, but the outer reaches become more of a "hike" along rocks and stone walls.
Guests at the Jailhouse Inn frequently begin their Cliff Walk journey in the middle, at Narragansett Avenue, as this entry point provides easy parking. Others walk (or run!) to the beginning of the walkway at Easton's Beach, 1.5 miles from the Jailhouse, and proceed from there to do the entire distance on foot.
Feel free to ask for further advice upon arrival. We have a wealth of brochures, information and local knowledge at the Jailhouse Inn.
